Kia ora!
We are incredibly proud of Nīkau. Our five fabulous classes work in harmony, with teachers and students learning alongside each other in a friendly and supportive environment.
Students are developing greater independence across all areas of learning. They are moving from learning to read to reading to learn, using texts to build knowledge and support understanding. In writing, they are beginning to express ideas more clearly and with greater purpose. In maths, they are starting to apply strategies with growing confidence and explain their thinking more independently.
How do we work?
- Teachers plan and teach collaboratively.
- We create a safe, positive learning environment where students feel supported.
- We share a unified vision for behaviour and learning expectations.
- We build on the Adventure Way attributes developed in Kōwhai through Play-Based Learning.
- We continue to support learning through play with Discovery Time every Friday.
- Our programmes offer a balance of explicit teaching and student choice, helping learners grow in independence.
What do we value?
We believe children learn best when:
- Learning is authentic, relevant, and purposeful.
- They feel valued and respected.
We believe our classrooms are happiest when children and teachers:
- Work together, but also have the freedom to be individuals.
- Have a voice in their learning.
- Reflect on their learning and teaching.
