Nīkau Syndicate

Kia ora!

We are incredibly proud of Nīkau. Our four fabulous classes work in harmony, with teachers and students learning alongside each other in a friendly and supportive environment.

Students are developing greater independence across all areas of learning. They are moving from learning to read to reading to learn, using texts to build knowledge and support understanding. In writing, they are beginning to express ideas more clearly and with greater purpose. In maths, they are starting to apply strategies with growing confidence and explain their thinking more independently.

How do we work?

  • Teachers plan and teach collaboratively.
  • We create a safe, positive learning environment where students feel supported.
  • We share a unified vision for how we engage, interact and learn together.
  • We build upon the foundational Adventure Way traits developed in Kōwhai by integrating them across the wider curriculum.
  • Our programmes offer a balance of explicit teaching and student choice, helping learners grow in independence.

What do we value?

We believe children learn best when:

  • Learning is authentic, relevant, and purposeful.
  • They feel valued and respected.

We believe our classrooms are happiest when children and teachers:

  • Work together, but also have the freedom to be individuals.
  • Have a voice in their learning.
  • Reflect on their learning and teaching.
